Real-life context for Roman numerals

Why should we care about Roman numerals nowadays?

Background

Age group: Grades 4-7

Pedagogical purpose: An introduction to Roman numerals! Become familiar with the Roman numeric system, understand its structure, and recognize Roman numerals up to 20 (XX).

Pedagogical challenge: We needed to find the best way to explain the use of Roman numerals, as well as how to apply them in a real-life scenario.

Story: The librarian at the wizard library has asked you to help readers find their books! But watch out for the mess they’re about to make…

Game task: Help readers check out books at the library and keep the bookshelves organized.

Game challenge: We had a very low budget for this game and had to make a big effort to make sure it would be included in the series. This was also one of our first times using the rig technique for character art production.
